Since 1991, Amplifier has produced programs of various sizes (up to 32 pages) for JVC Company of America in connection with their longtime sponsorship of the JVC Jazz Festivals, which run throughout the United States and overseas. The programs include specially developed content related to the festival. The program has won an ASCAP Deems Taylor award for music journalism and has included contributions from the most prominent jazz writers, photographers, and illustrators. Distributed on-site at the various festivals and inserted into alternative weeklies and into select editions of JazzTimes magazine, the program has been used to connect festival-goers and jazz music fans to JVC’s diverse line of consumer electronics products. In addition, we developed an engaging and robust website for JVC related to its affinity for jazz.
The Amplifier team publishes JazzTimes, “America’s Jazz Magazine,” a consumer music magazine dedicated to the jazz genre. Its masthead includes several of the world’s most prominent writers, photographers, and illustrators, and has won numerous awards throughout the years. The authoritative All-Music Guide called JazzTimes “arguably the finest jazz magazine in the world.” Amplifier also created jazztimes.com, a popular website with a breadth of editorial content and marketing material.
For over five years, the Amplifier team produced Harp, a magazine covering the indie-rock music scene with verve and style. Before it ceased publication in 2008, Harp was considered to be one of the world’s most creative music magazines, thanks to its irreverent profiles, probing interviews, and contemporary photography and graphics. Larry Dobrow of MediaPost called Harp “the best pure music-and-music-only title out there.”
These print pieces were part of turnkey promotional programs with several noted music and book chains, promoting chain-wide sale of jazz recordings. The pieces, which included CD minis and brief description for each item, ran as supplement within JazzTimes and were also distributed as a stand-alone publication at all stores. The Amplifier team handled the sales, design, production, and printing for the supplement.
Working on behalf of the JazzTimes brand, Amplifier has sponsored and marketed several brand extensions in the form of cruises and special trips, including a campaign that sent hundreds of passionate music fans to Cuba to learn about the music and culture of that country. In addition, Amplifier enabled JazzTimes to be a sponsor of jazz cruises that sent thousands of jazz fans on high-end trips around the world. JazzTimes was a longtime marketing partner of Jazz Cruises, LLC, the world’s largest charter cruise company of musical themed cruises. This relationship enabled Jazz Cruises, LLC to more efficiently direct its resources to reach new audiences.
The Amplifier team knows all about special event planning, having produced the sole industry conference for the jazz industry for over two decades. The convention, attended by industry professionals from all over the world, included panels, workshops, performances, receptions, and exhibits. From producing ancillary materials like schedules and brochures to setting up panel sessions with in-demand speakers, Amplifier has done it all.
Since 1996, the Amplifier team has negotiated dozens of sponsorships and created many activation programs at some of the top music festivals and events throughout the world. Sponsorships have featured a mix of print media buys, on-site presence, logo placement, program advertising, contest giveaways, and online advertising. Each sponsorship package was individually tailored to the needs of the client and the particular event.
